A) Dragon's Landing Inn is back
After a summer hiatus, the Dragon's Landing Inn is back. Episode 92 talks about the hiatus and initial thoughts on 4e. This one is a long one, clocking in at about 2 hours, but for those of us who have been jonesing for some DLI, it was a quick 2 hours. You can find Dragon's Landing Inn at www.dragonslanding.com.

B) Spooky Outhouse
You've heard me talk about the Podgecast before, and here I am talking about it again. This time, it's in relation to Spooky Outhouse Productions, which is a production and marketing company anchored by some fine quality podcasts. Right now, Spooky Outhouse Productions includes The Habitual Insomniac, The Man Cast, Red Earth Saga, the Podge Cast, Story Shtick, Bear Swarm!, and Wapcaplets. Head on over to spookyouthouse.com and see what's going on there. Join the forums, where you might just bump into a couple of Accidental Survivors, getting in on the forumy goodness.

I just have to say that Spooky Outhouse is Pretty F#$&in' Chang!

C) Vorpal Network
Fist Full of Comics and Games has always hosted some of my favourite podcasts, from the Inner Circle to the Monarch Comics Briefing. Now, the Fist Full of Comics crew has gotten together with the Tome Show and the Gamer's Haven to start the Vorpal Network. This is one sweet collection of high quality podcasts. Added to this is a geek news aggregator which also delivers tidbits to Twitter. I don't just love the Vorpal Network because my game from GenCon got a favourable shoutout on the first of the Main Feed episodes, I love it because its got a fair portion of my podcast fix all on one feed.

Undercover: The PCs are cops tasked with infiltrating a dangerous criminal organization. How can they work their way up the ladder while maintaining their integrity? Ordinary complications, like family problems, can play a big part in a campaign like this, since the PCs will have the added complication of a secret identity--trying to keep their assignment and their home life separate.

5. Podcast News
A. The Material World looks at Tunguska
On the 30th June 1908, a huge fireball hurtled towards the Tunguska River region of Siberia. The explosion that followed was as powerful as 1000 Hiroshima bombs and knocked down an estimated 80 million trees. But 100 years later scientists are yet to find an impact crater or tell-tale meteorite remains. So what happened?

The Material World is a BBC Radio podcast. In this episode, Host Quentin Cooper is joined by Dr Phil Bland and Gareth Collins from Imperial College London to find out. You can learn more at the website.

B. Brilliant Gameologists
In their own words, Brilliant Gameologists is a podcast about tabletop games and the people who play them. Helping you play like you have to, play like you have to and play like you have two.

For my two cents, the BGs are fun and enjoy using language that is less than family friendly, like some other podcast I know . . . and possibly participate in. They understand LARPing is all about hitting on hot gamer chicks and has no other value. Me like.

4. The Hook
OpCom VULTURE

The PCs are drawn into a trip or mission to the town of Iana Sarat in Mondovia, a fictional state in Eastern Europe. If they are military or spies, they are assigned to a mission, if they are private individuals, they are either hired to escort a subject they will meet there, or the NPC is a friend or other acquaintance that calls on their aid.

Stories of lights in the skies and unexplained explosions the previous night meet the PCs. They meet Piotr Korensky, who is their contact. He indicates a belief that they are a “recovery team” with “Vulture.” He passes on a map and coordinates some 40 kilometres south west of Iana Sarat. Before he can explain any further, he is assassinated by a rifle shot.

The shooter, if captured, carries a letter stating “Provide assistance to RAVEN acting under orders. Recovery operation underway. OpCom VULTURE may intervene. RAVEN is to terminate this threat.” It is only signed “Majestic”

The map leads to a valley in the mountains where a strange aircraft has crashed. The occupants are not human. Here, the PCs meet Devoe, and he explains that they have been sent here through the machinations of Operational Command VULTURE, a secret military command created by elements of NATO and the Warsaw Pact in the 1960s to oppose the Majestic 12 conspiracy. Vulture adapts and then spreads alien technology, preparing to battle the aliens who have infiltrated Earth societies through the help of Majestic.

The PCs are now caught in the middle of the battle between the conspirators of Majestic 12 and OpCom VULTURE, possibly the saviours of humanity. Devoe can act as their contact and feed them information. But since this is the shadowy world of black ops and conspiracies, is VULTURE or Devoe really who they say they are? Is Majestic 12 really the threat Devoe states it is?

That’s up to you.

Chuck brings us Asylum seekers:
Got a campaign that’s getting a bit predictable? Tell your players you'd like to try a one-shot with new characters set in an asylum. Over the course of the adventure, the players will slowly begin to realize that the characters they're playing are their standard characters from the ongoing campaign, who have been drugged, supplied with fake identities, and deposited in a home for the criminally insane as a convenient way for the villain to rid himself of his enemies.

Worse, the players are inside with many former enemies.

And from Chris, Exdreamas Machina:
Nazi's have recently started infiltrating the dream lands in order to probe the dreams of leading scientists around the world. The characters are part of a rival British organization called ESPionage (Necroscope rip-off) they are pressed with entering the dreamlands to prevent the Nazi's from stealing the secrets of inventors and at the same time securing those ideas for themselves.

The guys at FFoCaG will be getting first hand news and information directly from Paramount to report via their website with other opportunities available down the pike as the release the date draws nearer.

B. The Secret Lair: not so secret anymore!
Chris and KJ who were two of the regular hosts on the late Roundtable podcast from the House of the Harping Monkey are back with the Secret Lair. These two villains crouch like spiders in their lair, waiting for the unwary. Ken Newquist, he of Nuketown Radio Active, has been captured and interrogated in episode 6. None can say who might be next. Perhaps you!

In order to prepare for their onslaught, I suggest you research their diabolical plans at www.thesecretlair.com/.

C. The Game That May Be: Mick just couldn't keep away
And the final piece in the Roundtable podcast puzzle has broken cover. Mick Bradley is soloing in the podosphere with The Game That May Be. In Mick's own words: What kind of roleplayer do I want to be? What kinds of games do I want to play, how do I want to play them, and who do I want to play them with? What tools are available to help me figure all that out, and to help me get where I want to go? Exploring the answers to those questions is what this site is about. It's my ongoing chronicle of my roleplaying life. Here's where I ponder, wonder, dream, wrestle, steal, and share. If you're interested, come along.

A. Master Plan

Master Plan is an podcast on the subject of game design and the art of ideas, particularly for role playing, card and board games. B. Happy Birthday Tome Show!
The Tome Show has turned one year old, and I didn't even send a card! It's up to 34 episodes, so I guess it's a bit more regular than us. Maybe more fibre in the diet of pure D&D. For those of you not in the know, the Tome Show is a Dungeons and Dragons news, review, and interview show. Jeff, the Tome Host, and the Tome Reporters tell you about what is going on in the world of D&D. You can find it at www.thetomeshow.com.

4. The Hook
This week, I want to provide a hook to lead into a gritty, conspiracy campaign. It's shamelessly stolen from the first two episodes on the new season of the Unit.

The characters belong to a special operations force, perhaps Delta, perhaps JTF-2 or the SAS. They might even belong to something blacker, like the Increment or the CIA Special Activities Division. On their first adventure, they are tasked with escorting a spook on an "interdiction" mission against a drug kingpin's complex. The target doesn't look very drug complex-like—in fact it looks like a very nice home with large grounds. During the mission, the team is confronted by an individual whom the spook shoots. The spook searches the place and cracks a safe, all the time deflecting questions from the team—if they ask any.

On return, the team is called before a government oversight committee. It turns out, the “drug kingpin? was the defence minister of a government on poor terms with the PCs' government. Their superiors deny any knowledge of the mission, indicating that the team went rogue. The PCs are hung out to dry and it looks like they are going to do prison time. Their commanding officer, who was left out in the cold as much as the team, orders them to evade arrest and go underground. He's going to take the heat and the PCs need to figure out what is going on.

The truth is that the team have been chosen to take the fall for an operation undertaken by a shadow government conspiracy. The mission was an intelligence operation to retrieve important information from the unfriendly government that the conspiracy feared might be used against them. That information could lead the team to the people behind the conspiracy, could clear their names, and ensure their CO doesn't end up in prison.

The campaign has the team following clues and getting closer and closer to the heart of the conspiracy. Finally, they are able to take out the heads of the conspiracy. Like a snake, the shadow government dies, but the team can't go back out into the open after that. They become an arm's length black ops team, contractors for their government, doing dirty-work but only when they are sure the aims are righteous. It's kind of like the Unit meets the A-Team.

5. Podcast News
A. The End of the Round Table and Misfit Brew

The House of the Harping Monkey is a little bit quieter and less crowded with the demise of two much-beloved podcasts, the Round Table and Misfit Brew. Mick Bradley was involved in both, and with him on the Round Table was Chris Miller and K J Johnston. The Round Table especially will be missed, though Misfit Brew was a great podcast, the Round Table was one of my 'must listen' podcasts. I wouldn't put it in a queue to listen to, I would listen to it as soon as I downloaded it. It's a sad day, but all the participants will be visible in the Podosphere and in the RPG community. Maybe we can actually coerce them onto the Accidental Survivors at some point.

6. SEP News
Fraser sold another story, this time to Black Gate. Black Gate is a major market, and one that Fraser has been trying to crack since 2000.

With Christina (his daughter) taking up so much of his time, and wanting to focus on his fiction writing, Fraser is putting Sword's Edge Publishing on hiatus. The products will remain available at Your Games Now and Steve Jackson Games' e23. Support SEP and support this podcast.

The deal for Mundus Novit: the Changed World fell through as Silven Publishing closed up shop, but Fraser is polishing it up and seeing about a partnership with another publisher to get it out.

Rob has spawned again. Soon the Wakefield brood will blot out the sun!
