1. Geek Week
Fraser's digging the viral websites up for the Watchmen movie, including I Watch the Watchmen and the New Frontiersmen. The New Frontiersman is also on Twitter as NewFrontiersman. One of his players gave him the d20 Modern Menace Manual (thanks Eric!).

Chris was pretty busy, geek-wise lately. He finished Fallout 3 and thought the ending rather fitting with the story even though it's rather abrupt. He also started playing Fable 2, which is a lot of fun. He got out to the movies and saw My Bloody Valentine 3D which he did a review of on our site.  He's glad to finally have Supernatural back on again.  But the big highlight for Chris was finally starting up the Dark Heresy campaign that's been in the talks now for a few months. Also check out the trailer for a new Tim Burton film called 9 it's another animated movie.

Rob got into the beta for Champions Online and though he's restricted by an NDA. He also started playing a 14-day trial of City of Heroes just for comparison.

David picked up Mortal Kombat vs DC for the PS3 and considers it awesome. In addition, he's started a project in LittleBigPlanet, attempting to build a simple Tower Defense game. He's been working with his fiancee on a client's website and now has a passing mastery of how to make Google Maps work for me.

Dave's opinion of PDF value 2/5
Fraser's opinion of PDF value 2/5

3. The Hook
March 2009. U.S. President Barack Obama finalizes the draft that orders the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to be closed within one year.  His administration also starts to setup a program to determine how to process the currently existing prisoners.

November 2009 all communication from Guantanamo Bay cease.  It is later relayed to the public that it was a problem with the generator and nothing more.

January 2010 a report is leaked to the press that an investigative force was sent in to discover the source of the black out and communications were lost with them also.

March 2010 the characters are contacted to go in as a strike force and find out what is going on.

4. Podcast News
In Our Time: Robin Hood
One of Fraser's favourite podcasts, BBC's In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg has a great episode from 2003 on Robin Hood. His guests are Stephen Knight, Professor of English Literature at Cardiff University and author of Robin Hood: A Mythic Biography (Cornell University Press, 2003); Thomas Hahn, Professor of English Literature at the University of Rochester, New York; and Dr Juliette Wood, Secretary of the Folklore Society.

You can listen to the episode online.

5. Feedback
In case you haven't heard, the Accidental Survivors Podcast is holding a contest for modern gaming ideas sponsored by RPG Objects. The idea can be anything, as big as a setting or campaign to as small as a single character or piece of equipment. Use your imagination! What about a criminal organization or an evil corporation? Perhaps a cocktail! Just about anything is grist for this mill.

The idea should be presented in a one-page synopsis of no more than 500 words. If the idea includes a mechanical component, those mechanics need to be described in a system-neutral manner--so that an individual who does not know the system will understand the impact of the mechanics.

Each submission must be in PDF format and include the entrant's name, address, email address and telephone number. There is a limit of one submission per person. The deadline for entries is Saturday January 31, 2009.

Send your submissions to accidental@swordsedgepublishing.ca.

Winners will be announced Tuesday, February 17, 2009. There will be three winners--first, second and third place. The winners will be contacted by email before officially announced on the Accidental Survivors podcast. The prizes include print copies of Blood and Fist, Blood and Relics, and Modern Backdrops from RPG Objects.
